What is the best free and fastest remote desktop apps?

I have recently been asked about remote desktop, and more importantly which is the fastest and best.

After supporting many people over the years as an Support Engineer I have have used many remote desktop applications from norton to logmein, to vnc, so which is the best? comments below please.

After 6 months of testing I have found that TeamViewer although not on my original list is one of the best around, if you use 3d applications and other graphics software it handles them very well. I recommend checking it out.
